The career day for PhD-candidates and post docs has become a regular event on the agenda of the Faculty of Medicine. This year we have invited a professional career consultant from the University of Aarhus, and want to look into innovation as a career opportunity. As usual, we will also hear from former PhD-candidates who now have exciting jobs and in the afternoon there will be three parallel workshops on skills that are useful for your future career.

The Faculty of Medicine covers the participation fees (so its free for you), but please register for lunch and the workshops. https://skjemaker.app.uib.no/view.php?id=7836080

W1 "Identify and present your own skill set”- CVs and how to present your research

Many PhD Students and postdocs find it difficult to pinpoint their different skillset, understand which skills are relevant in which contexts and how to communicate their skills to a job market outside of academia. This is what we will be working with in this 2.5 hour workshop which will be a  mix of presentation and group work. By the end of the day, you will hopefully have gained an awareness and understanding of the many important skills and experiences you develop as a young researcher and know how you communicate these skills depending on what and who you are communicating to.

Held by Vibeke Broe, career consultant at Aarhus University.

W2 "The academic track” - post doc opportunities and proposal writing

At this interactive workshop on proposal writing you will learn more aobut How to get a postdoc after your PhD. You will get an overview of relevant programmes for early stage researchers and what it takes to succeed. We will go through important aspects of an excellent CV in the context of a research project proposal. We will introduce you to 5 key questions to aid your project design. You will help you to evaluate the potential impact of your project.

Held by the team of research advisors at the Faculty of Medicine.

W3 “Professional poster design”  -  how to make an outstanding poster

An intensive presentation on simple design principles, looking at example-cases and applying said principles to a poster-workshop.

Held by Arjun Ahluwalia, graphic designer and founder of Uting design, a brand consultancy service. Arjun has previously worked at the Division of Communication at UiB, where he designed infographics and held workshops for master students and PhD-candidates.
