A botanical Christmas at Milde

Which Christmas tree should I choose?

Many kinds of conifer have been used as Christmas trees: we display a selection of the most common species.

When the Christmas tree came to Norway, the spruce was the dominant tree in the spruce's natural range. North and west of this, pine was used until you got past the tree line. On the outermost islands and in northern Norway, people built their own tree by drilling juniper branches into a pole or a broomstick.

Today the selection is much larger. We display a range of the most common species at Bergen Botanical Garden. Come and see which tree you like best. The exhibition is located outdoors, and is available until the end of Christmas (or until a storm blows it away...).
