Twenty years of ESS and new data from Norway

We mark European Social Survey’s (ESS) 20th anniversary by holding a seminar at Hotel Norge, Wednesday 25 January, from 0930 to 1700. Department of Government has been national coordinator for the ESS since 2019, and wishes to invite all interested parties to participate at the seminar. Everyone are also invited to a competition on making the best ESS data visualization.

Main content

The event includes national and international scientists presenting their preliminary analyses of the new ESS data from Norway and other European countries. The Director of ESS Rory Fitzgerald (City, University of London) attends and presents on the future of European Social Survey research. Lise Rykkja, Kristen Ringdal, Sveinung Arnesen, Gyrid Havåg Bergseth, Jonas Linde, Dag Wollebæk, Håvard Rydland, Terje Andreas Eikemo, Elisabeth Ivarsflaten, Linn Sørensen Holst, and Annelies Blom will all make further presentations. They will discuss the data from ESS round 10,  examine the impact of the recent COVID pandemic on public trust in political institutions, talk about the ESS in past, present and future, and come with insights from other surveys.

Most of the talks are in Norwegian, some will be given in English.

We also invite you to create the finest data visualization of ESS data in celebration of the 20th anniversary of ESS. The figure must completely or partly rely on data from ESS round 10. 5000 Norwegian kroner will be awarded to the winner. The winner will be chosen by a national coordinating team based on scientific quality and relevancy. Submissions may be emailed to sveinung.arnesen@uib.no, by 18.01.2023.
