Ph.d.-registration
All PhD candidates at University of Bergen must register on the Student Web twice a year.
Main content
University of Bergen (UiB) use PhD half-year registration via StudentWeb to follow up their PhD candidates. On Studentweb each candidate update and verify their individual education plan and register for courses and exams twice per year (deadline 1 February and 1 September).
Why Ph.d.-registration?
PhD regulations at UiB require that candidates keep faculty informed of their progress. PhD registration is included in the overall quality assurance of research training and supervision of each candidate and is mandatory. Candidates who fail to register will be followed up by their department, to provide for registration or any discharge of the research program on the basis of the PhD Regulations § 4.4 Reporting and § 5 Termination of organized research before the agreed time.
What is Ph.d.-registration?
Registration is done via a web portal (Student Web) where candidates must update and keep track of their individual doctoral appointment, academic training and progress in the research program. Address of the gateway is studentweb.uib.no. Student Web opens for autumn PhD registration in June, and for spring PhD registration in December. The deadline is 1 February and 1 September each year. It is only during the registration periods you may enroll in courses via studentweb.
On studentweb candidates can see their appointment information, register for research courses at the University of Bergen and update the plan for research training. Besides the deadlines for registration, you can also update your contact information. In addition, it is important that candidates report their absence or leave of absence exceeding 14 days during the last six months. This may have implications for the extension of the PhD period. Extension of time you must apply before the period expires. Candidates who do not have valid PhD period (and therefore no valid contract guidance) will not get registered.
Courses at UiB
The courses the candidate should take at UiB is either added to the plan in advance, or can be picked up in studentweb. When a subject is closed and censorship (grading) is registered, the candidate will see this in their plan. The candidates will then get better information about how much is left in the training section.
Registration for courses via studentweb happens after the "first-served" principle, and it is therefore advisable to register as soon as studentweb opens. One can still go in and make changes right up until the deadline.
