Mentor Week 2022

The Faculty of Medicine and our students welcomes you to a new semester. Our students will guide you through Bergen and the campus area. The programme includes social and cultural activities.

The Mentor Week lasts from Monday August 15 to Sunday August 21 2022. You'll get the offer to join a mentor group Friday August 12. All the mentor activities are voluntary and you can choose which you want to join.

Programme

The mentor activities are for all new student and will mainly occur in the afternoons and evenings the first week at the Faculty of Medicine.

The programme for the mentor week will have something for everyone. Remember that it's a long week and you also have things going on in the daytime that you shouldn't miss. Remember to eat and stay hydrated - and take good care of yourself an others around you!

Monday August 15

 

Welcome meeting, lunch and a guided tour of the campus area by the mentors.

15.00 - 16.00 p.m.: Welcome to all new students at The University of Bergen, at Muséplassen.

17.00 - 22.00 p.m.: Get-acquainted-evening at the homes of the mentors.

22.00 - 24.00 p.m: Visit the club Lille.

There'll be a welcome at the faculty of Medicine, with lunch and a tour of the campus. From there the trip will continue to the city centre, where there'll be another welcome for all new students at UiB. There'll be speaches and musical numbers. The rumour has it that there'll be buns! Later there'll be a get-aquainted-evening at the home of the mentors, where the new students will get to know their mentor group. From there, the trip goes to the club Lille, where all the different mentor groups will meet up for a good time and new aquaintances. 

Tuesday August 16

 

16.00 - 20.00 p.m.: Hike and barbeque on Fløyen. Meet up outside BB-bygget (Jonas Lies vei 91, 5009 Bergen) at 16.16 p.m.

17.00 - 22.00 p.m.: Bar hopping with costumes, ending with selecting the group with the best costumes.

22.00 - 24.00 p.m.: Visit Bryggen nightclub.

The mentor board invites on a hike up mount Fløyen and barbeque. Here you'll have good views of Bergen and a good time. There'll also be bar hopping with costumes and you'll get to know the different bars, pubs and clubs Bergen has to offer, while colouring the town with all the beautiful, new students from the Faculty of Medicine. Bryggen nightclub will be the last stop, where the clubs best dancer will be selected. This day it's advisable to have good shoes (and crazy outfits).

Wednesday August 17

 

16.00 - 22.00 p.m: Rebusløp with costumes.

22.00 - 24.00 p.m.: Visit the club Underlig.

Theres going to be a rebusløp with different assignments that the group or members of the group have to solve. The group will move around from pre parties, to clubs and bars. The last stop will be the club Underlig, a place that always have a good vibe and a great selection of hits. 

Thursday August 18

 

10.00 a.m. - 17.00 .p.m.: Studenttorg at Grieghallen.

21.00 - 03.30 p.m.: Helhus, in red costumes, at the Academic Quarter, "Kvarteret", together with the Faculty of Law and the Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences.

Starting in the morning, there'll be a studenttorg in Grieghallen, where you'll get the opportunity to get to know many of the student organisations that Bergen has to offer. However, if you have obligatory lectures it's important to go there instread.

Helhus at The Academic Quarter, the students cultural center, will be arranged later, and is a cooperation with the Faculty of Law and the Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences. This'll be a night where the different rooms at Kvarteret will be filled with different concepts and events, rumour has it there'll be both silent disco and concerts. Here the new students will get the opportunity to get to know not only other students from the Faculty of Medicine, but students from other faculties as well. This is something you don't want to miss!

Friday August 19

 

16.30 - 20.00 p.m.: Barbeque and volleybal at Grønneviksøren.

22.00 - 23.00 p.m.: International evening.

There will be barbeque and volleybal at the volleybal court at Grønneviksøren, where the mentors will have both volleyballs and other fun outdoor activities.

Afterwards, there'll be a international evening!

Saturday August 20

 

16.00 - 24.00 p.m.: Apartment-to-apartment with different themes in each apartment.

For students of medicine:

21.00 - 24.00 p.m.: Prize giveaway at Smittbar.

On Saturday you'll go from apartment to apartment with costumes. The mentor groups will visit different apartments where there'll be different concepts and activities. You'll get to see how other students live and get to know them as they get various challenges and assignments in the different apartments you visit. 

The students of medicine will go to Smittbar, where there'll be an award ceremony and party summising the best mentor week with the best new students.

Sunday August 21

 

11.00 a.m. - 17.00 .p.m.: A trip to the popular mountain Ulriken and over Vidden with Bergen Studentidrettslag.

14.30 - 16.00 p.m.: A trip around Bergen.

For students of dentistry, dental hygiene, farmacy and nutrition:

18.00 - 21.00 p.m.: Last group get-together at the home of your mentor.

21.00 - 24.00 p.m.: Prize giveaway at Smittbar.

For the sporty students the student organisation Bergen Studentidrettslag will host a trip to Ulriken and over Vidden. Here you can view large parts of the city of Bergen. Alternatively there'll be a guided tour of Bergen where you'll get to see what cultural attractions Bergen has to offer. Among other destinations, you can expect to visit both The Museum Garden and Festplassen.

For the students of dentistry, dental hygiene, farmacy and nutrition there'll be an end of the week party with your mentor group. From there you'll go to Smittbar, where there'll be an award ceremony and party summising the best mentor week with the best new students.

This is going to be a wild week, where you'll get a unique insight into what Bergen has to offer.
