International students
International students admitted to the University of Bergen, can sign up or apply for Norwegian language courses in Studentweb.
Main content
You may sign up/apply for a Norwegian language course in Studentweb if you are an exchange student or an international student admitted to the University of Bergen. Students with Norwegian as their first language cannot receive credits for UiB's Norwegian language courses.
PhD Candidates are considered employees and must apply in Søknadsweb.
If you are required to take a Norwegian language course by your home university, we ask that you let us know as soon as possible.
How to sign up
Applicants who have acquired knowledge of Norwegian outside of UiB, must sign up for and complete a placement test in order to register for NOR-U2, NOR-U3, NOR-U4 and NOR-NYN.
International students register for courses in Studentweb within the deadlines given in the right hand panel on this page.
- NOR-INTRO, NOR-U1, NOR-U1/2 and NOR-NYN requires that students apply/register for classes in Studentweb and then being admitted. There are no language entry requirements for NOR-INTRO, NOR-U1 or NOR-U1/2.
- NOR-U2, NOR-U3 and NOR-U4 does not have a admission process. Eligible students that have either passed the preceding course or been placed on the appropriate level after the placement test, will have access to register for available seats in Studentweb. It is important that students register as early as possible to start classes when they commence in week 4 Spring/week 34 Autumn even though the deadline is later.
Please note that you may only be registered for one Norwegian language course per semester. Exception: NOR-NYN may be combined with NOR-U3 or NOR-U4.
Waiting list
Students who are not offered admission to NOR-INTRO, NOR-U1, NOR-U1/2 after applying, will automatically be placed on a waiting list. Students must monitor Studentweb themselves to see if they are admitted from the waiting list/monitor their waiting list placement.
NOR-U2, NOR-U3 and NOR-U4 do not have a waiting list. Studentweb will be updated with available seats up until the registration deadline and students must keep track of any available places and register themselves in Studentweb. Students who are initially unable to sign up for a course, are encouraged to check Studentweb regularly.
Schedule
Our courses take place on campus. Make sure that you sign up for a course group that fits your schedule and that you have enough time between your courses to get from one to the other. You must also make sure that your exams don't conflict.
