Student innovation

UiB offers support to students who want to apply for funding to test new ideas or business concepts:

• Up to 1,000,000 for student ideas through Stud-Ent: UiB provides assistance to students who wish to apply for up to NOK 1,000,000 from the Stud-Ent scheme with the Research Council of Norway. Students who want to apply and who have a project that is considered mature enough, are offered advice from business developers at VIS. An initial conversation with an innovation advisor is required before you contact VIS. Read more about Stud-Ent here.

• Up to NOK 100,000 for student ideas through UiB idé: Students with good ideas can apply for up to NOK 100,000 from UiB idé. The funds are allocated to ideas with societal value that need to be tested before deciding whether to proceed with the innovation process. Contact person for UiB idé is Yves Aubert. UiB has several meeting places for students who are interested in innovation and entrepreneurship:

• Innovation Hub UiB is a physical meeting place that is open to all students at UiB. Read more about Innovation Hub and how to register here. At the Innovation Hub, you can sit and work on your ideas, meet other students through various events and build network. Also follow Innovation Hub on Facebook and Instagram.

• There are several student associations and organizations for students with an interest in innovation and entrepreneurship. Below you will find a non-exhaustive list. Have we forgotten an organization? Contact us and we will get it on the list.
• Start Bergen (for all students at UiB and HVL)
• Innorett (law students' innovation association)

• UiB collaborates with HVL and NHH on Bergen Entrepreneurship Academy (BEA). Here we gather all relevant information about courses and events on innovation and entrepreneurship where our three institutions are responsible or involved. Through BEA, we want to make innovation activities and study offers visible so that you as students can get an overview of what is happening. Together we offer a great range of activities for UiB students in our region. Stay updated by clicking on the pages.

• VIS offers discounted office space for students, as well as the opportunity to apply for admission to incubator programs such as Gründerhub. You can read more about what VIS offers students here.

UiB has a wide range of study options, and in the list below you will find examples of courses that either have innovation and entrepreneurship as part of the learning objectives, that provide an academic benefit that is relevant to pursuing innovation and entrepreneurship or that give you the opportunity to get work experience.

Some selected and widely used innovation methodologies and tools (external sources). UiB offers several courses where students can acquire knowledge and skills based on some of the methods below. Examples are CET201 Sustainable Innovation, an interdisciplinary innovation course that is open to all students, and MCB201 Introduction to Innovation and Entrepreneurship in Media City Bergen.
