Advanced 3D model for assessing efficacy of ovarian cancer therapy (27.06.2024)
In a new doctoral work at CCBIO, by Christiane Helgestad Gjerde, the group has established a 3D in vitro model of high-grade serous ovarian carcinoma to assess the efficacy of traditional chemotherapy and novel cell-based immunotherapies. Nerves can affect breast cancer (18.06.2024)
The doctoral work of Ole Vidhammer Bjørnstad, which includes three coming scientific papers, has shed light on the occurrence of neural precursor cells in breast cancer, and the interactions between neural precursor cells and breast cancer cells.

The 2024 Kavli Prize in Nanoscience awarded to Professor Robert S. Langer (13.06.2024)
The Norwegian Academy of Science and Letters June 12th announced the 2024 Kavli Prize Laureates in the fields of astrophysics, nanoscience and neuroscience. Among these are Robert S. Langer (USA), sharing the 2024 Kavli Prize in Nanoscience with Armand Paul Alivisatos (USA) and Chad A. Mirkin (USA).

Patient involvement in cancer biomarker research is a work in progress (05.06.2024)
Although patient involvement in research was not part of the program at the 12th CCBIO Annual Symposium, it is a topic CCBIO will give more attention to. We had a chat with a user representative who participated at the symposium, and who is also contributing in one of our research projects.

Continuing a strong cancer research network (05.06.2024)
The 12th CCBIO Annual Symposium has recently taken place, with a program showcasing current cancer biomarker research. This was the final symposium in CCBIO’s 10-year period funded by the Research Council of Norway as a Centre of Excellence (CoE), however not the last. CCBIO will continue its core activities, maintaining what has become a strong cancer research network.

Discussing current cancer biomarkers at CCBIO’s 12th Annual Symposium (2024) (29.05.2024)
The 12th CCBIO Annual Symposium took place May 14-15, 2024, at Solstrand outside of Bergen in excellent weather, facilitating a radiant frame for networking and meetings in the sunshine during the breaks. The program showcased current cancer biomarker research as well as taking a step back considering global perspectives on cancer.

Real-world data shows that rituximab is more effective than cladribine (22.05.2024)
During 2017-2019, systematic differences in high efficacy MS-treatment strategies were preferred in Oslo (cladribine) and Bergen (rituximab). Comparisons of long-term (median 4.5 years) effects from these different treatments showed a 2.7 higher risk for new MRI disease activity after four years in the cladribine group (n=132) compared to rituximab group (n=168).

Prestigious recognitions to Lars A. Akslen and CCBIO (04.12.2023)
The regional health authority Helse Vest’s Research Award 2023 goes to Professor Lars Andreas Akslen and CCBIO for ground-breaking research on cancer biomarkers. Akslen has also been subject to another prestigious recognition this fall, as he was recently elected as member of the Academia Europaea.

Investigating new treatment strategies for cervical cancer (03.12.2023)
Mari Kyllesø Halle received a frame allocation of NOK 8 million in the Researcher Projects 2023 call from the Norwegian Cancer Association, for the project "Decoding the Landscape of Cancer Vulnerabilities in high-risk Cervical Carcinomas to detect new treatment strategies." CCBIO is proud to see this CCBIO Masterclass alumna as a project leader for the first time.

Emmet McCormack will be part of the new COST Action IMMUNO-model, where a network of scientists involved in the development and implementation of preclinical models evaluating the response and toxicity induced by immunotherapies, is challenged to expand our knowledge in their mechanisms of action and improve the survival and quality of life of cancer patients.

A successful first Neuro-SysMed Annual Symposium (17.10.2023)
The very first Neuro-SysMed Annual Symposium took place at the historic Solstrand Hotel outside of Bergen, September 25-26, 2023. The dramatic western Norway weather did not entice to stepping out into the beautiful fjord surroundings, but all the 114 participants did nevertheless enjoy social and scientific radiance indoors.
