Innovation and Entrepreneurship: ELMED223

The course, which runs over four weeks in January, introduces students to medical background entrepreneurs who can talk about how they worked with their ideas and concepts. In addition, students are given practical tasks where they can develop their own business idea and simulate starting a company.

The course brings in medical founders to give lectures and workshops to the students on the course. This includes founders from Nuheart, BerGenBio and Nordic Neuro Lab. The founders will share their own experiences and motivations for stepping out and starting their own business.

As a participant in this course, students are given a unique opportunity to take part in workshops where they gain an insight into what is needed to take the steps further by launching their own company. We hold seminars at Marinholmen Makerspace with topics such as Design Thinking, how to get funding from investors and how to get an innovation perspective on their ideas.

The speakers have long experience from the field and come from a wealth of entrepreneurs in the field of entrepreneurship, including Innovation Norway and DnB, the Norwegian Research Council, Bergen Robotics and Motitech to name a few.

This year's students (January 2019) developed good ideas for startups after getting inspiration from speakers and seminar leaders, and some of the proposals were even submitted to NFR Forny (Research Council) for funding in February 2019. We also saw that some of the projects developed further after completion of the course.
