My main area of research deals with how members of minority and majority groups relate to each other within different types of multicultural societies. Here, I am particularly interested in understanding phenomena such as discrimination, prejudice, violence, extremisms but also positive phenomena such as intergroup helping, solidarity, successful acculturation and collective action. Doing so, I focus on factors such as status, power, and inequality. Much of this work also takes an intervention focus, in which I try to develop and test strategies to improve relations between different societal groups.

In different lines of research, I am also interested in social perception, environmental psychology and gender inequality. For instance, I am interested in how biases influence the way we visually perceive our own and other groups, how we can lead people to adopt more environmentally conscious behavior, and which mechanism underpin support for, or opposition to, gender inequality.

In my work I use a variety of approaches, including multilevel, longitudinal and experimental methods. Much of my work here uses cross-cultural designs to investigate and compare psychological phenomena across a range of societies. Here, I am particularly interested in conducting research in understudied populations that have received little attention in psychological research.
