I am a Full Professor in Social and Community Psychology at UiT The Arctic University of Norway. My main research interests are in the area of intergroup relations, namely stereotypes and prejudice, social identities, and in general cooperation and conflict between social groups.

Recently I have focused on the role multiple social identities play for young immigrants’ integration. Together with collaborators from Norway, Germany and the US, I have conducted studies on young immigrants’ social identity development and how this relates to their integration in different European countries. In addition, I have recently become interested in factors that facilitate and hinder men to engage in communal roles. Besides experimental work on masculinity threat, which I am conducting with colleagues from Poland, I am currently conducting a large cross-national project in over 60 countries in collaboration with researchers from Canadian, Belgium, and German. In this project, we explore which national- and individual-level variables explain men’s interest in communal occupational roles and in domestic and parental roles. Finally, I am also interested in social identity development in children. In a recent research project, together with my lab in Tromsø, I investigate the developmental of gender stereotypes and gender roles in kindergarten children in Norway.
