I have long-standing interests in the field of work and health, disability, and rehabilitation. My research focuses on chronic pain conditions and mental health problems in working life, with a particular focus on risk disability factors and potential cognitive/ behavioral interventions to improve outcomes. In my research, I have explored psychological aspects and comorbidity of patients with low back pain, patients with irritable bowel syndrome and patients with chronic fatigue syndrome. I have been interested in investigating psychological predictors of treatment outcome, prognostic factors of disability, and psychosocial treatments to increase functional abilities and return to work in both patients with somatic and/or psychological conditions.

I am currently the principal investigator of three large projects, all randomized controlled trials of work-related interventions for various patient groups at risk of permanent disability. In the first project, we investigate the effectiveness of a new job support intervention to prevent permanent disability in young people. In the second project, we evaluate the same job support intervention for a large group of people with severe mental illness with an aim of including them in the work force. And finally, in the third project, we investigate the effectiveness of the job support integrated with interdisciplinary pain treatment for patients with chronic pain in an outpatient hospital pain clinic. Recently, I have also taken an interest in chronic pain after surgery, and currently leads a project where the aim is to prevent post-operative pain and fatigue after breast cancer surgery through psychological interventions before and after surgery.
