Privacy

Privacy is related to the protection of personal integrity and personal information. There is a distinction between privacy and personal data protection.

Main content

Privacy is the protection of personal integrity and the individual’s opportunity for private life, autonomy and self-expression. The term is socially angled and tied to the right to have a separate private sphere controlled by one self.

Personal data protection refers to rules and standards for processing personal data and has privacy as the main goal. The term is linked to the individual’s opportunity to help themselves controlling when, how and how much personal information is being disseminated to other parties. Personal data protection in this sense is often called privacy.
