Fredag 19. februar 2016 holdt professor emeritus Ørjar Øyen et kåseri om «Wiensenteret» for kolleger og stab ved Sosiologisk institutt. Wiensenteret ble etablert som et senter som skulle drive samfunnsvitenskapelig forsknings- og dokumentasjonssamarbeid på tvers av Jernteppet under den kalde krigen.
Vegard Jarness, postdoctor at Dept. of Sociology, was awarded best article in english in 2015 by the Norwegian Sociology Assosiation for the article ”Cultural vs Economic Capital: Symbolic Boundaries Within the Middle Class”.
The Department of Sociology offers a new course on "Life courses in a Scandinavian Welfare State" from spring 2016. This course focuses on the provision of welfare in in different phases of life.
