Trond Mohn Foundation (TMS) grants

A number of excellent young scientists have been recruited to UiB with the support of Trond Mohn Foundation since 2005.

Trond Mohn Foundation has contributed to the recruitment of excellent scientists from all over the world to the University of Bergen.

The Trond Mohn Foundation (formerly the Bergen Research Foundation), based on donations from Trond Mohn, Marit Mohn and Frederik Mohn, has allocated more than a billion Norwegian kroner in grants to research institutions in Norway since 2004.

The foundation has pursued the goal of recruiting young researchers and bringing them to Bergen. In collaboration with the University of Bergen (UiB), a four-year recruitment programme, the Starting Grant programme, was put in place to achieve this goal. During the past fifteen years, 48 talented young people have been awarded the fellowship grant.

The University of Bergen and Trond Mohn Foundation established the TMS-UiB Career Program for the grantees in 2019.

Trond Mohn Foundation

The foundation awards grants for research and research supporting activities at the University of Bergen and Haukeland University Hospital, and other Norwegian research institutions if they cooperate with the institutions in Bergen.

It also gives grants to support research at the interface between basic research and clinical research at the University of Bergen and Haukeland University Hospital.

Had it not been for the Trond Mohn Foundation, Bodil Holst would have worked as a patent consultant in Munich. Thanks to a recruitment grant in 2007, however, she is now one of the most innovative researchers at the University of Bergen.

Criminal Law: Work that never ends

As a student, Jørn Jacobsen encountered Norwegian criminal law – and he never got over it, or past it. The recruitment scholarship from the Trond Mohn Foundation gave him the opportunity to delve more deeply into issues involving power, criminal offences, freedom and penology.

Manuscripts that link Europe together

Norwegian universities and university hospitals can receive grants from this foundation. Applications from other institutions, organisations or individuals are not considered.
