Privacy at the university library

Information about the privacy policies for the library's systems.

Main content

For you to be able to borrow from one of our libraries, we need to keep some personal information in our library system Alma, a system provided by ExLibris. We register your name, birth date, address, telephone number and e-mail address. We do this in order to be able to get in touch with you when needed, for example to send you pick-up messages or reminders about loans that are due. We also register the UiB ID (Feide-ID) for students and employees, so that they are able to log into the discovery system (Oria) and the reading list system (Leganto), and be recognized as UiB affiliated.

Registration and deletion of user accounts in Alma

UiB student/employee

Once you have accepted a student place at UiB, your personal information is transferred from the Felles Studentregister (FS) to the library system Alma. This means that you now are registered in our system, and can log into Oria, request and borrow literature.

Personal information for employees is automatically transferred from the personnel system to Alma.

The student/employee card or the student ID app work as you library card.

When you stop being a student at UiB, your account is deleted (a month after your UiB account is deactivated). All your personal information will then be deleted from the library's systems. If you have loans that have not been returned or claims, the information will be deleted when everything has been delivered or paid. If you still want to borrow books from UiB, we'll create a new user account for you.

We also regularly delete accounts belonging to UiB employees that are no longer employed.

External user

Anyone with a valid ID can become a borrower at the University of Bergen library. A national library card or student card from another institution can be used as a library card. Please contact one of our libraries to be registered.

If you no longer wish to have a library account at UiB, we can delete your library card and personal information from our system. The condition is that everything has been returned and any claims have been paid. The account is deleted without further notice if there has not been any activity for three years.

Loan history

When a book is on loan, the name of the borrower is registered in our system. When the book is returned, this information is automatically deleted.  We do not store your loan history.
