On World Ocean Day in June 2021, a unique Norwegian-Pacific PhD Scholarship Programme was picked as one of the first 60 Ocean Decade Actions worldwide and one of three Norwegian actions.
2021 saw the 50th anniversary of UNESCO’s visionary Man and Biosphere programme, which brought attention to the importance of biodiversity long before the Sustainable Development Goals put it on policy makers’ agenda. We spoke with UNESCO Chair Inger Elisabeth Måren at the University of Bergen about the programme’s importance.
The ASIM instrument aboard the International Space Station was the only instrument out of seven which detected the giant flare and recorded the main burst phase without being blinded by the giant flash of high energy which saturated the other six detectors at the time of the maximum emission.
