First public PhD defense at the Center: Ester Anne Kringeland defended her PhD thesis 06.12.2022 at the University of Bergen. Title of the thesis: "Sex differences in blood pressure in midlife: associations with risk factors and acute coronary syndromes in the Hordaland Health Studies".
After years of work, we finally can see what the apicomplexan glideosome-associated connector (GAC) really looks like! Check out our latest preprint presenting the structure in two drastically different conformations. Based on its structure, we suggest a role for GAC as an elastic spring helping parasite motility and invasion.

The regional health authorities, Helse Vest, just released their latest funding results in which 7 Neuro-SysMed projects will receive funding for a total of ~26 Million NOK. This will secure support for important clinical treatment research focusing on multiple sclerosis (MS), Parkinson’s disease (PD), amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) and dementia.

The course CCBIO905 – Methods in Cancer Biomarker Research was arranged for the fourth time September 27-29, 2022. This was the second time as a fully digital event. From the confusion of the first pandemic months, CCBIO is now highly experienced in organizing digital events, and hybrid events, for that matter. One thing is however clear – it takes a village to run a good online course!
A collaboration project on vulvar cancer between the Bjørge, Costea and Mustafa groups are using a 3D bioprinter to print tiny vulvar cancer tumors with live support tissue, for more realistic testing of which therapy will give the best response.
