In our annual report we write about ongoing and future research related to the Centre for Elderly and Nursing Home Medicine (SEFAS).

CCBIO operates within the health services in addition to the Faculty of Medicine at the UiB and is subject to the guidelines issued by both institutions (see below links). As a consequence, we are reducing our activities accordingly. Please check the calendar for details. Notably, the CCBIO Annual Symposium and the Satellite Symposium have been cancelled.

NORPART exchange students Maria Gorretti Nakyonyi and Evelynn Kaleysubula recently participated in a meeting with rector Dag Rune Olsen and Minister of International Development Dag Inge Ulstein.

In human cells, N-terminal acetylation is among the most common protein modifications. Now, researchers at the University of Pennsylvania and the University of Bergen have revealed the structural and biochemical properties of the major molecular machine involved in this process. Cancer cells require this enzyme for survival and proliferation.

CCBIO recently completed its CCBIO903 course Cancer Research: Ethical, Economic and Social Aspects, including a CCBIO Special Seminar, titled “Cancer in the news”. It is with a heavy heart that we inform you of the passing of Dr Maharaj K. Bhan, member of CISMAC Executive Committee and a close friend. Dr Bhan died in Delhi on 26 January. An important European-funded initiative has been launched to explore how common molecular mechanisms may link metabolic disorders, especially type 2 diabetes and obesity, with brain disorders such as Alzheimer's disease, obsessive-compulsive disorder, and autism spectrum disorders. Jan Haavik and Aurora Martinez from the Department of Biomedicine are the norwegian participants.
