Momentum – Career Development Program for Young Researchers

Excellent researchers know how to navigate the competing demands of research, publishing, teaching and administration whilst cultivating their academic and commercial networks and developing a strong international profile.
The UiB Career Development Program- Momentum is a one year training programme designed to give talented postdocs and associate professors the opportunity to acquire and strengthen their professional skills whilst offering a forum to reflect on the opportunities and challenges working in academia present. The program aims to increase UiBs participation in ERC, FRIPRO Young Research Talents and other relevant calls for proposals for young researchers.
You will receive skills training on a range of subjects designed to help you successfully transition from postdoc to PI, including:
- Planning an academic career
- Project management
- Doing interdisciplinary research
- Competing for research funding at national and international level
- Developing partnerships & building research consortia
- Strategic thinking
- Research management and self-management
All participants will be supported by an international mentor. The candidates will have 100.000,- NOK at their disposal which can be used for mentor, travels, networking, research stays and workshops.
Who can apply?
The programme is designed for early career researchers embarking on an academic career at a research university.
Postdocs, researchers and associate professors who are employees at UiB are invited to apply. The candidate must be under the age of 40 or have being awarded the PhD degree less than 5 years ago, not including statutory leaves. Employees on a temporary contract must have a minimum of one year remaining on their contract.

Ingve Bergheim is a senior advisor at the HR-department. He is responsible for UiB’s leadership programmes for both administrative and academic staff.
Vibeke Kyrkjebø Irgan is a research advisor at FA, and leader of UiB «BOA-team». Vibeke will bring a transdisciplinary administrative support team to the Momentum programme, with specialist competence in all stages of the research project cycle, ranging from proposal development to project management.
Synnøve Vindheim Svardal is a communications adviser. She works with strategic communications and branding in several projects across the university. Synnøve is one of four coaches in Researcher Grand Prix, a national competition for PhD. candidates challenging them to present their research in 4 minutes.
Kristof Vlaeminck is the manager of the UiB Brussel office. He works to increase UiBs participation in the EU framework program.
